Beware of Secret Sin

secret sin

People who have participated in a SFT Awareness class have heard the statement that sexual behaviors are the easiest behaviors to treat. The truth is sexual behaviors are easy to treat if… The reason there is an if is because often sexual behaviors are easy to hide. Especially behaviors such as pornography.

Hidden behaviors are not just limited to sexual behaviors. I worked with an entire family once minus the mother. It turns out that the mother was a closet alcoholic. By the time the family found out it was too late. She ended up leaving her entire family.

So why are hidden behaviors so dangerous? Because no one knew that she needed help and she got further and further into her behavior. James 5:16 says confess your sins to one another. Of course this must be done with discretion. It would be a bad idea to confess a hidden sin to someone who is a gossip. It is best to find a trusted friend or minister who will be genuinely interested in helping. It would also be wise to not confess to the spouse in matters of pornography. The reason being that spouses can take that behavior personally and escalate the problem instead of solve it.

So here is the bottom line with secret sin. Behaviors that are hidden have the power over you. Now the question is are you going to have the power over your behavior, or are you going to let your behavior have the power over you?
