Costa Rica Update

We would like to update our supporters on our international efforts.  At least a year ago Steven Guerrero contacted me to get SFT Awareness in Costa Rica. For 7 days in October Jimmy Hill, Sara Leitnaker, and I traveled to Sabanilla, Costa Rica to train people in how to remove emotional pain.

The First day I taught a Bible class at the Sabanilla Church of Christ. The topic was the listening skills that Jesus used to gather information and control the conversation. At first it was difficult to teach with an interpreter, but after while it became easy.

Next, we spent the time teaching one-on-one sessions. Session participants ranged from teenagers to adults with issues such as drugs to getting along with others.

As the week went on we moved into doing small group sessions. The first small group was a family at Steven’s house. We then spent two days at a local orphanage. We began at the orphanage with the basic concepts of the SFT model. The following day Sara explained how these fundamentals are applied to the new SFT Awareness child curriculum. The orphan home is immediately implementing the concepts, but also wish for us to return to hold a more thorough training seminar.

The final hours we had before we went to the airport consisted of Sara teaching teachers and Sunday school teachers the child curriculum. It is said that an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. We plan to accomplish this with the child curriculum since so many who participate in this training has already made many mistakes in life.
