Modern Day Bathsheba

2 Samuel 11:2,4 - One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing…. David sent messengers to get her and he slept with her.
Most know the story well. What happened on the rooftop with David? Not much at first. Then…looking, liking, and lusting followed by covetousness, adultery, and then murder (of her husband).
In today’s culture within the access many have to unlimited forms of electronic technology, there are also opportunities to spot Bathsheba. Let me get a little more to the point….. Statistics reveal that about 40% of all internet viewing at any given point in a day involves viewing pornographic web sites. At a 2009 gathering of nearly 50,000 Christian men, 45% responded yes to the question “Have you viewed pornography within the last 30 days? A little math would indicate that’s about 22,500 who honestly said, “Yes I have.”
Another large percentage responded that this was an ongoing activity for them weekly. If this is true then this creates a large, serious, and heart breaking spiritual situation. In I John 1 and verse 6 we are reminded of the following, “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. Like David who by looking and lusting then committing a multitude of sins, we too may be lusting, coveting, lying, and in addition to this keeping it secret.
There is another similarity with this in our day going back to King David for Psalm 32:3 shares there was a time in when David kept silence (hid the secret) and there was a price for this.
What does this all mean? Simply this…. If you are a Christian and are in the sinful habit of viewing pornography and/or other forms of secret sexual behavior, then there is a problem. Unfortunately, the problem is not simply only a spiritual one. It has likely also become a physical and mental one as well. Many things can be affected negatively by this ongoing situation. Sleep loss, relationship damage, anxiety due to a double life, the guilt and shame being carried due to the kind of behaviors.
The real list is much longer. Fortunately, there is a light and the end of this tunnel. There are resources available which can help both to educate and constructively engage this situation so that over time all the negative realities can be both reversed and new benefits (both Spiritual and emotional) can develop.
If by chance you are involved and may be at a point where you just want to talk to someone or you want a little more information, you can call us and we can assist. We have resources and tools that can help get you engaged to deal with what is going on, and to break free from it over time. We help men in reaching restored sexual integrity. In reaching out, you will find compassion, understanding, and hope.
