The Advantages of Processing on Paper
July 9, 2008
All SFT students are asked to process their emotional pain events on paper. All it takes in the beginning is one processed event per week to master the attitudes and skills involed. However, sometimes students attempt to process without paper too soon. Processing without paper before a solid foundation has been established is a great injustice for the student.
First, writing things down help the processor to memorize the concepts of the attitudes and skills. The brain works too fast to make the concepts solid when only used on the mental level. For example, as soon as a person comes up with their positive view point, they have to correct thinking errors. How is a person supposed to remember what they already thought with the positive attitude? The truth is they cannot remember it all. Remember that this training is about changing one habit of thinking into another. This cannot be done if the student cannot remmember how they answered the questions from the processing sheet.
Second, it allows the processor to step away from the event. A person who enters a hedge maze may wonder at some point if they will ever find their way out. While they are in the maze, they cannot see a way out. If this person were given a maze on paper where they have an above view, it allows them to easily find the way through.
Emotionally painful events work in a similar way. Often we cannot see how to make it through during the event. However, when the event is written down on a processing sheet, it allows the processor to step back and view it from an outside view point. This makes it easier to see how to get to the other side.
There are many who come through SFT training. Many of those see the need for the material and enjoy having sessions, but liking a concept alone is not enough to master it. Someone may like guitar, but without practice they will not become a musician. This concept is true with sports, investing, and other areas where people strive for success. The students who make the effort to write down the concepts taught by SFT will be the ones who find that life can enjoyed. They will be the ones who will no longer carry their emotional pain.

Gary, yes, I have learned through experience that processing on paper does have greater rewards, expecially in the beginning and later on for those big pain events.
A student cannot seriously think they can change distorted thought patterns without putting in the proper practice and effort. Too often I have student who listen to the information only and think that will suffice to help them make their life better.
i am jest hearing about your sft and i an excited and want to learn more online , i live in mo. can you help me?
